puppet blog
My intentions for the “Puppet Blog” are as a working sketch book, a journaling of my creative process, including recording life challenges of a working artist.
Here is a list of things to come ;
New Painting Marionettes- A painting elephant, Frida Kahlo in her wheel chair, Chagall, Walter Anderson, Basquait, and a painting rabbit! Hand Puppet Artists- For Sale
A Mardi Gras Puppet Show- A Giant Mermaid Puppet- For the MardiGras parade Muses.

Start mold with upside down bowl. I added some to the base for the chin.
Sculpted clay face on top of bowl.
Cover clay mold with plastic wrap. Now ready to papermache with cornstarch paste.
Five layers papermache, three paper bag,and two newspaper.
Hand mold.
The only tools I use to construct the body. The more unusual staple gun (Arrow P22) works like a traditional paper stapler except it can handle a lot more like cloth and cardboard.
Backside of mermaid body, you can see the cross like skeleton that is attached to the back pack.
Finished face.
Moving along in Muses parade.
This is my giant mermaid puppet I created for the Muses parade Mardi Gras 2015. It was my intention to document a play by play of creating this puppet but my working process is a bit chaotic and of course I forgot to take pictures. creating in chaos

 A New Year a new website. I have so much hope for all the wonderful puppets I want to create. My “To Do List” always grows much faster than things get done. I know most of us have this problem especially if we have kids and drudgery work that keeps us busy. It can be hard to find a moment to create. I need to stop waiting for things to get "under control". I wait for a quiet time. I wait for when the house is clean. I wait for when I am bursting with creative energy. If I am waiting for the ideal time I might as well give up now! Life is extremely messy, especially my life! There are always dirty dishes. My two month old Catahoula pup poops and pees around the house, rips up paper, chews on furniture, toys and shoes. My two year old human son throws books, clothes, and bills on the floor. His favorite toy is a garbage truck. He fills it with trash he finds around the house, then dumps it, and fills it up again. For him mess is Fun! I just need to change my attitude and not see mess as something ugly and something to be ashamed of. Part of me is cringing as I write. "Eeww, don't let people see that!", but everyone has dirty laundry. I am not going to let mess get me down anymore. Recently I saw a cross stitch sampler that said, “BLESS THIS MESS” This is my motto this year. I am accepting the chaos instead of crying with frustration wile waiting for the “perfect time” to create. Yes, I will be constantly interrupted. I am potty training both baby and puppy. I will have to stop and clean up lots of messes and go to traffic court and pay my bills. But I will snatch bits of time whenever I can. I will leave the dirty dishes in the sink and create!
